Welcome to 6th Grade Life Science (Biology)!



Hello there! I hope you are excited to be learning Biology this year! I just wanted to give you and your parents/guardians a quick idea of some of the things we will be covering this year as we study life sciences for the year.

During this first year of science, we will be covering all the different branches of Biology. We will be looking at everything from cellular biology, botany, zoology, earth origins, ecology, and lots of wildlife science. We also have live animals in our classroom to observe and enjoy. One of my major interests is Montana animals and plants – so all year long we will be looking at the plants and animals you can find right here in Butte. We will be doing reports, using ideas from Project WILD and Aquatics, and even getting interesting trunks from all over the state – so we have lots to look forward too.

Some other skills we will work on this year will include the following: learning to take notes, learning to review for tests, learning to use your homework calendar, learning to use the internet to find and use information, and how to write reports.

Most of the projects for my class will now be located on the following site with my name: http://www.kaycook.com. Hopefully, soon my website and student’s on-line grades will be available at the school’s website.

For my class you will need the following materials:

  1. A separate notebook especially for Science for taking notes.

  2. A separate folder for all papers I give you for this class. You need to put this form in the folder, as well as all other project and worksheets I give you. I will check them once a quarter and you will receive a grade for this.

  3. You need pen, pencil, and colored pencils for this class.

To achieve a decent grade in this class:

  1. You need to take notes!!! You have to be responsible ON YOUR OWN to get notes from another member of your class. You are in Junior High and are capable of doing this.

  2. You need to complete your reviews and study them, your book and your notes for ANY test.

  3. You need to complete projects and reports I assign you.
