Montana Mammals Report:






Due Nov. 10th, 2009

You will write a 2 page report – double spaced in no more than 12 font – in paragraph format - about a mammal living in Montana using at least one internet source and at least one book source. You will also DRAW a picture of your animal and color it correctly. This time you should type your report and include a cover sheet (can include drawing).

Your report should include the following information:

  1. The location of your animal and where it lives. (5 points)

  2. What your animal eats. (3 points)

  3. A description of your animal – color, fins, etc. (10 points)

  4. How many babies your animal typically has (2 points)

  5. Does this species migrate from place to place or stay in one area? (5 points)

  6. Do we hunt for this animal? ( 2 points)

  7. At least 3 adaptations that make your mammal able to survive in its environment. (9 points)

  8. Any history of your animal. Is your animal native to Montana? Has it ever been endangered or has its population changed over time? Why? (10 points)

  9. Three things about your animal you think are really interesting that haven’t been mentioned. (9 points)

Grading will include the following:

  1. Your picture: drawing, coloring & accuracy ( 10 points)

  2. Your cover page (6 points)

  3. Correct capitalization. ( 2 points)

  4. Correct punctuation. (2 points)

  5. Correct spelling. (2 points)

  6. Uses Transition words well (example: First, Second… OR In addition, therefore) (2 points)

  7. Uses clear topic sentences. (example: A mammal has many adaptations.) (2 points)

  8. A beginning paragraph that tells why you are doing the report. (example: This report is about my favorite mammal the Red Fox. Red foxes are really cool, even though they are an exotic and originally came from England. I will be telling you all about how these mammals look and live, as well as their adaptations and other information.) ( 5 points)

  9. Has a concluding paragraph with three sentences telling about your report (example: So, you can see from my report that Fed Foxes are wonderful to have in Montana. They live many places, eat many small animals, and play an important role in Montana’s natural environment. They are really cool even though they are an exotic species.) (5 points)10. Three different sources for your report – at LEAST one book (book source includes, author, publisher, date and title). Internet sources that are specific enough that I can type them in and find the page you were using. (9 points)
